Lily feels passionately that immigrant rights are human rights and must be defended; she appreciates the opportunity to help combat injustice and fight alongside fierce advocates in her work at Al Otro Lado.
In this capacity, Maddie assists in coordinating services for asylum seekers in Tijuana with a focus on the translation and preparation of case evidence that is used to support asylum claims. Maddie also works to make Al Otro Lado materials and updates regarding border policy easily accessible to asylum seekers that speak a variety of different languages. In addition to her work with Al Otro Lado, Maddie is an activist and organizer in Minneapolis and assists with coordinating legal support for activists that are arrested in Minnesota.
Maddie sees legal activist work as one of the tools she can contribute in the fight towards abolition. As a volunteer she developed the translation project, assisted with coordinating pro se asylum clinics and know your rights trainings for asylum seekers at the border. Previous to her work with AOL, she worked in special education. Maddie is proficient in Spanish. She graduated with a B. Matias helps clients connect with local organizations providing free medical care, social services available in the area, and migrant shelters where they can stay.
Prior to joining the staff at Al Otro Lado, Matias volunteered for 6 months in various shelters around Tijuana hosting workshops and providing both crisis response and short term therapy sessions.
Melissa Flores is a native Angeleno and first generation Mexican-American. Her commitment to community service and social justice began in high school when she volunteered at an organization that built schools for children on the outskirts of Tijuana, Mexico. Melissa graduated magna cum laude from Boston University and pursuing a career in public relations and social media.
She brings over 10 years of experience in communications to Al Otro Lado as our Communications Manager. On the front lines of social justice, Al Otro Lado is a binational legal service organization, serving deportees, refugees, and separated families at the US-Mexico border.
A journalist turned attorney, Princess has always had a passion for communication. As a second-generation Los Angeleno, communicating with people from a variety of backgrounds is a skill she learned early on. To expand her capacity to communicate, Princess learned Spanish through study and traveled all over Latin America, the Caribbean, and Spain. She brings to this Fellowship honed written and oral advocacy skills, and a deep passion for social justice.
As a descendent of the people who built this nation under the force of terrorism, serving populations experiencing human rights violations akin to what her ancestors survived is meaningful community activism Princess feels privileged to take part in.
Priscilla works to advance and protect immigrants' rights, as well as end detention, by representing detainees at Otay Mesa Detention Center. She advocates and fights for our clients' release from detention through bond, parole, and winning their merits cases. Priscilla is a recent first-generation law school graduate and proud daughter of immigrant parents. She is licensed to practice in California.

Ricardo currently represents people in removal proceedings as well as in their affirmative applications for relief. Ricardo was born and raised in Boyle Heights in Los Angeles, and is the proud son of a Salvadoran immigrant mother. Ricardo has always engaged in advocacy for the community in Boyle Heights, starting from when he was a youth reporter for the Boyle Heights Beat, often writing articles about education and immigration.
He is also a photographer and enjoys video games and anime. Rigo was born in Mexico, but was brought to the United States at two years of age and settled in San Diego, California. In June , at the age of 20, Rigo was deported from the United States, leaving all that he had known. With no resources or family in Tijuana, Rigo began his life as a deportee working as an assistant in a rehabilitation center.
There he learned how to provide counsel and empathy to those that were on a similar journey. From to , Rigo worked as a customer service supervisor in an American call center placed in Tijuana. Since joining Al Otro Lado, Rigo has participated in countless turn-ins and supported immigrant caravans at the international border. Rigo has now built a life and family in Tijuana and is pursuing his education to further his career in the legal field.
His life attests to the hope that Al Otro Lado strives to share with many. Rosie is responsible for intake and assessment for immigration relief, referral planning for housing, mental health services, benefits enrollment, and health care.
Sasha R. Sasha represents clients in post-conviction relief proceedings, affirmative immigration applications, and removal proceedings, and offers advice on a range of criminal-immigration legal matters. Sasha holds a B. She has focused her work on the defense and promotion of human rights.
